iBangle - Fantastic future iPod as self-sizing bracelet.

According to Fashion Week Daily, Apple may soon add an iBangle to its army of i-ness -- yes, a bangle bracelet that sits on the wrist while your tunes blast through wireless headphones. The aluminum bangle will feature a trackpad so your finger can slide and tap its way through your music. Worried about fit? An inner air chamber will simply inflate so the bangle remains steady, particularly helpful if you're taking it on a run or hike. Designed by Gopinath Prasana, the iBangle currently exists in concept only...but hopefully not for long. No word on an ETA or price. When it comes to iPods and other MP3 players, not much has changed about them in the past few years. Sure, the memory is getting better all the time, but the design is the same: they clip on the belt and the obligatory wired earplugs. This iBangle design concept is a little bit daring as the design fits right on your wrist instead of clipping to your belt. Don’t let its loose look fool you, the iBangle won’t easily slip off like other “clip-on” MP3 players. Apparently, that tiny blue button that you see in the illustration somehow fills the blue area with air, so it fits snug, but hopefully not too snug. As for the earphones, forget about it! The audio sound is transmitted via wireless earbuds. So how do you navigate through tracks, you may ask? Just use the multi-touch track pad. Now, if only it had a way to play video files. Perhaps a screen could be put on it, and the iBangle could pass for a watch. This could easily be the next big thing for MP3 Players, so please feel free to put one million iBangles into production. It might take a few years (or decades) for this iBangle design concept to end up on your wrist, but for the time being, we can stare in astonishment at its ambitious design. You see that blue inner band? Push a tiny button on the side and it fills with air, expanding to fit snugly around your wrist. There's a multi-touch track pad for easy navigation, and the audio finds its way to your ears via a couple of wireless earbuds. Alas, there's no screen, but Apple designers figure you can navigate just fine with an audio-oriented navigation system. Short of that miraculous mini air compressor, this looks like a player that might be possible, if the buyer doesn't mind paying a pretty penny for a musical bracelet. We'd like to see it shrunk down to the size of a wedding ring, allowing its wearer to express the ultimate in Apple love. The iPod is already pretty forward looking in terms of design, but designers decided to take things a little bit further with the iBangle concept. This MP3 player comes in the form of a - you've guessed it, a bangle, and features a multi-touch track pad for you to control your playlist. Guess this is a fancy version of the iPod Shuffle since it lacks the physical real estate for a screen or projector to keep you entertained with movies, so only songs will have to do. Since everyone comes with different wrist sizes, the iBangle boasts a cushion within that inflates so that it is able to fit into just about any wrist snugly. I am sure many people who go jogging in the morning and are addicted to music will love this concept iPod design - iBangle. You can wear the iPod on your wrist as a bangle and listen to music without the fear of dropping your iPod. Although you can’t do many fancy things with the iPod such as connect a Projector or Watch Videos on it because it lacks a screen, you can still listen to music (That’s what iPods were made for, isn’t it?) and it also will look stylish on a wrist. To tackle the problem that everyone comes with different wrist sizes, the iBangle design boasts a cushion within that inflates so that it is able to fit into just about any wrist snugly. The iBangle has a Multi-touch track pad using which you can control your playlists. It may be a concept for now, but I am certain many would love to have an easier and more convenient way to listen to their music while going to exercise. iBangle the wrist wrapping iPod Dedicated Apple aficionados are determined not to let the iPod fade away into obscurity and let Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak's prophecy come true - you know the one where he predicts the death of the iPod. It's fair to say the iPod hasn't had much of makeover since the very first day it made an appearance, changing the way we see portable music forever, other than slicing a few centimetres off its outer shell and upping the internal memory. The creators of the iBangle clearly had this in mind when brainstorming ideas for this ambitious concept wrist wearing iPod. It may look like a loose fitting bangle, but apparently there's no chance of the iBangle escaping your wrist thanks to that little blue button. It sounds a little far fetched, but apparently one press of that blue button fills the blue area with air so it fits nice and snugly around your wrist (hopefully not to the point of cutting off blood circulation). I sense you're thinking about an earphone jack. Well forget about it, the iBangle doesn't have one. Instead, music is transmitted wirelessly via Bluetooth headphones. Track navigation is dealt with using the multi-touch track pad too. There's no telling if this musical bracelet will make it beyond the concept stage - it wouldn't be a bad thing if it did though.

Will this 80's fashion-inspired iPod model ever see the light of day?

Pod designs have come a long way since the original made its debut seven years ago. Through hardware enhancements, they've morphed into sleeker, sexier music players and incorporated other slick features into their ongoing evolution. They're highly fashionable, but are iPods considered a fashion accessory themselves? They may be in the future. Meet the iBangle. An unusual concept formulated by Apple's designers, the iBangle is a prototype iPod device that combines 80s fashion - hey, the 80s are still making a comeback - with the portability and function of the iPod shuffle. The futuristic, aluminum bracelet packs the audio punch and the style needed to get you through the day. To keep it stabilized on your arm, a single button press inflates a blue lining to make it nice and snug. Though there's no screen, a voice interface tells you what tracks you're highlighting, and a touch-sensitive pad is used for song selection and navigation. The iBangle does away with plug-in headphones, opting for wireless blue-tooth audio transmission. As it was pointed out to me, bangles are typically worn in stacks. While the cost of procuring two armfuls of the devices would likely be too prohibitive, it's feasible any number of peripheral fashion accessories could be launched with it. Presumably, the iBangle would come in an array of bright colors to match a variety of outfits, and sets of non-audio emitting bangles could be released to match. The possibilities are limitless...and ridiculous. The device has yet to progress beyond the concept design phase, but it might. Should it come to fruition, would you buy one? What do you think? Is the iBangle the wave of the future or a tsunami of bad taste?
